NPR One App Reviews

Pros - helps you discover new podcasts, new content Cons - cant find stuff like this american life or anything else by american public media. No "not interesting" button, skips way to easily, cant keep track of stuff you listened to, you lose your history after a while. I may go back to podcasts and use this intermittently until it gets better. Also, npr should really try to partner up with american public media!

Too many ads. NPR gets federal grant money, it gets donor money (myself included), and it gets money from member stations throughout the country yet they play ads after every other news story on this app which takes away their cred of being impartial. If they cant make ends meet from the above sources it might be time for a restructuring to remain a trusted news source.

I LOVE the concept of this app. Having non-stop, personalized news is exceptional and NPR should nurture this project with everything theyve got. A few suggestions. Id like to add/remove things in the up next. The ability to drag the hourly catch up into the up next would be great visually, as it gives a better idea of what youre going to be listening to soon. Also, Id like to be able to drag things from my previously played playlist into the up next. Sometimes I leave the story Im listening to so I can listen to something I want to listen to in that moment, and the ability to go back to that first story would be exceptional. Overall, AMAZING application. Would suggest it to anyone, no matter who they are or what they like. Additional suggestions: an iPad app would be great! As would a quick fast forward and a better scrubbing function so I can better move around inside the story Im listening to.

As an avid NPR listener I was excited to see a new App offering. Unfortunately this App is terrible. The interface is frustrating, the ads are obnoxious, and it offers no way to live stream my local broadcast....unless there is and i just cant find it buried in the mess. NPR- I expect better from you!

I love the concept! I like being able to listen to my favorite NPR stations from anywhere and at any time. I love following my favorite shows and having them right there to listen to any time. I do wish it was easier to navigate- I listen while Im driving and want a simple navigation to play show episodes quickly and continuously that doesnt take my attention off the road for a second! Right now I find the way they are stored and the number of screens you have to go through to find them is too many and time consuming to be safe to use while driving. I hope you can someday create a playlist feature or a voice command that gives easy quick access to all my favorite shows quickly!! Until then, Ill keep my eyes on the road and use my podcast playlist to listen to many of the same shows. Thanks!

5 stars because this is a great idea for people who like public radio. Unfortunately the app itself has some kinks to work out. I hope the next version is better. Ill keep using this one, though! This app is especially good for those times when youre in a podcast rut and want a trusted curator to just put stuff on for you.

Love this app and thank you NPR. The news is great to have at anytime and the stories are fantastic not to mention the variety. Always superb reporting. Love getting to know this app as I use it.

The latest version of this app has more ads and less content. One NPR ad starts: “After listening to that last story we know what you’re thinking.” Well, what I’m thinking is that public radio has gone commercial.

I really really like this app... I find it easy to use. I found this particular podcast that I really enjoy, BUT when I go to the search feature and click on an episode, sometimes it will only play part of it, or it will loop the first 4 minutes instead of playing the entire episode. It doesnt always do that. But its annoying. Enough that I had to write a review about it. Please fix this aspect! *update 4/25/16: after updating the app that said my playback would start where I left off, it did that a few times and then quit and went back to what it was doing before; starting at the News at the closest hour. Its very sporadic; sometimes playing back where I left off, sometimes not.

The inability to stream my local stations current broadcast (with weather, traffic, and other relevant info) negates any advantage to the app. So much potential, so little actual worth.

I love NPR, and was so excited to be able to listen to programs that I missed. Unfortunately, the app is disappointing to use. For example, I missed All Things Considered and wanted to listen to it, as I would if it was broadcast. When I search it, it shows everything as put into tiny 2-4 minute chunks, and when one segment is over the playlist switches back to whatever is featured on the main page at the moment, nothing to do with All Things Considered. I cant even swipe back to get to my search screen to tap the next story, b/c it clears it, and I have to start the search all over again-- every 2-4 minutes. Very aggravating. Very clumsy and not at all intuitive to navigate. NPR, you deserve better!

Im not creating an account, sorry, i absolutely refuse, its stupid why cant i just listen?? Ill get my news elsewhere. I bet fox news doesnt make me sign in lol

Ive listened to NPR ONE every day since I downloaded it! I love the skip feature and the convenience of the continuous feed.

Its giving me too much of what I dont want. Im going back to getting my podcasts directly from the source, rather than this app.

NPR is just another bought and paid for news source. I am so tired of all their unbalanced HRC reporting. The app is frustrating because as soon as I exit out I cant continue from the same place. All the way around not worth the space on my phone.

I listen to podcasts not the radio. This app helps keep me current on what is happening in the world.

I wasnt expecting to like this nearly this much. I dont listen to podcasts or audiobooks and I tuned out the radio long ago. But getting the quick news summary followed by a few suggestions of what to listen to next is genius. I have discovered some content that Im sure I would never have found otherwise. This app is a keeper.

Get a selection of archive NPR stories. Teach the app what you like. Theres so much to listen to.

Quickly and easily became one of the top used apps on my phone. I like being able to listen to shows at any time and listening to several episodes in a row. The app is a bit clunky and Im still trying to figure out if there is a queue for content?! Nevertheless, 5 stars because it gives me amazing NPR content 24/7.
